Working together to help residents feel safer

Date Released - 17/02/2023

BY WORKING together Ashton Pioneer Homes, Tameside Council, the Neighbourhood Police Team and the community have successfully launched a new Neighbourhood Watch Group on the West Park Estate, in Ashton-under-Lyne.

This is the first time Tameside Council have worked with a housing association to set up a Neighbourhood Watch Group. It has been something Tameside Council have been keen to develop across the borough, as the schemes ensure that fewer people feel afraid, vulnerable or isolated in their community.

Neighbourhood Watch schemes work together in partnership with the police, Community Safety departments of local authorities, other voluntary organisations and individuals and families who want to make their neighbourhoods better places to live.

The initial launch took place on the 15 February at Ryecroft House, in Ashton-under-Lyne. However, if you missed it Tony Moran, the Lead Neighbourhood Watch coordinator and volunteer will be hosting a drop in and presentation at Ryecroft House, Park St in Ashton on 1 March, 2pm -5pm.

Executive Member, Cllr Vimal Choksi said: “We are proud to have brought residents together with Ashton Pioneer Homes and the council to set up a Neighbourhood Watch Group, which will help ensure the area is a secure and sound place to live.

“This is important for the residents of Ashton, as it will allow them to feel protected whilst out and about in their neighbourhood. I hope this will further encourage others to look out for one another and come together to help make our community safer and stronger.”
